Indiana is home to some pretty famous family attractions. For example, did you know that the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis is the largest museum of its kind in the world? The Indianapolis Zoo is another popular destination for family trips in Indiana, but if you’re looking to avoid the crowds… well, we’ll just say those two options aren’t for you. So what’s a family to do? Easy: Head somewhere less crowded to enjoy your day. Lafayette is home to an incredible zoo where children’s imaginations will run wild. It’s home to all kinds of amazing and exotic creatures, and best of all…there are butterflies. Tons of them. Visit this incredible butterfly garden in Indiana before wandering around to explore the rest of the zoo!
In these uncertain times, please keep safety in mind and consider adding destinations to your bucket list at a later date.
It’s home to an array of fascinating creatures, intriguing insects and more – and speaking of intriguing insects, the Columbian Park Zoo is the setting for a beautiful butterfly garden just waiting to be seen and enjoyed.

…Well, ok. They don’t exactly “roost” here, but monarchs pass through here on their great migration, and many other species inhabit the garden itself.

Stroll through the Butterfly Sculpture Garden and don’t forget to also visit Butterfly Bog, on the north side of the garden, and the Butterfly Garden Party is a must.

Not that we know anything about it from experience, though.

Butterflies are awesome and beautiful and all, but the rest of the creatures at Columbian Park Zoo would love to say hello too!

Lions, tigers and hippos, oh my – they’re all expected at Columbian Park Zoo.

There are all kinds of adorable little guys just waiting to meet you! It’s more than just a butterfly garden in Indiana; it’s quite an experience.
Please note that this zoo is open seasonally, from April to October. For more information on this wonderful butterfly zoo and sanctuary, please be sure to visit the official website. What is your favorite animal? Tell us about them in the comments!
