Good morning! A bear opens the door to the house in New York State [VIDEO]

It’s that time of year when bear activity increases as the area’s furry four-legged inhabitants begin their search for food. After several months of hibernation, the bears come out of their winter nap to explore their environment. With more and more human expansion across the countryside, the two species are bound to interbreed at some point. In this case, a curious black bear decided to try peeking inside a nearby house.

The New York State DEC has a friendly reminder for everyone about bear activity this spring time. We can all live together.

A hungry visitor

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation shared this video on their Facebook page of a black bear opening the glass door of a house somewhere in the state. From there, you can see the hungry bear sniffing around the premise while trying to find a way into the actual house. The bear seems to quickly tire of the expedition, before giving up the search and setting off on foot.

The DEC recommends trying to limit food sources such as bird feeders, pet food, and open garbage cans to reduce bear-human conflict. They also humorously quoted the famous blockbuster jurassic park:

Yeah, unless they figure out how to open the doors.

This particular bear has found a way.

Respect the bears, but don’t sacrifice your friends?

This may sound like common sense, but sometimes it bears repeating. The National Park Service has already issued helpful reminders for bear season, and one particular reminder has some people laughing. But if you’ve ever thought about doing what they tell you not to do, then maybe you should reconsider.

The Park Service again told the public not to pressure slower friends to use them as bear bait because you’re escaping a chasing bear. The seasonal tips came in a Facebook post from Park Service, which offers some dark humor along with some otherwise helpful advice.

Good advice

They go on to say that if you encounter a bear, move away slowly and do so in a sideways motion. They also say not to run by any means, as bears chase fleeing animals. Trying to climb a tree is also not a good idea. It is advisable to make loud noises to identify yourself as a human and not as regular bear prey. However, do not fall to the ground and play dead. Bears can tell if you’re overdoing it. Slowly move away from the bear.

Black bears are the main bears in New York State, with approximately 30-35% of them living in the Catskills. Sure, you can sometimes spot them right in the middle of town, or rummaging through your trash cans, or even swimming in your backyard pool. Seal your garbage cans, bring your bird feeders, and basically don’t offer bears any food sources.
