Illinois man welcomes pregnant albino doe to his backyard

One of the most beautiful and majestic animals to have walked this earth is a deer. There’s just something magical about the way they move, look around and seem to meet our gaze directly, it’s like a connection with angels.

Seeing a normal brown/grey deer in the woods is an amazing sight, but can you imagine seeing an albino deer come out of the woods and into your backyard? How wonderful that would be.

A Facebook friend of mine had this amazing thing happen to him, multiple times.

Is it rare to see an albino deer?

According to ncwildlife.org,

Albinism is much rarer and can only be seen in 1 in 30,000 deer. There is also a very rare melanic condition which causes a deer’s coloration to be extremely dark and sometimes black.

What does it mean when you see an albino deer?

I felt like there must be some mystical meaning behind seeing such a genetically rare animal and there is a lovely legend about what it means to see an albino deer.

It’s explained on the site. mondeddeer.org like that,

In Native American belief systems, an albino deer is a significant sign of prophecy. They believed it was a sign from the spirit realm of great luck to come to their world. Anyone who has seen a white deer should expect a drastic change in their life, and soon.

Look at her, I am in awe of her beauty. She is magnificent. I wonder what her baby will look like. Will he be albino?

Do albino deer give birth to an albino fawn?

The answer is not necessarily.

Because albinism is a recessive trait, both male (father) and doe (mother) must carry the gene before it even has a chance to express itself in their offspring. It is a fact that an albino deer raised to another albino would only have albinos.
